Easy French Pissaladière with Sardines

This French inspired pizza combines rich sardines, sweet caramelized onions, and briny olives for an elegant and bold bite.

Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 pizza stone, cast iron skillet, or baking sheet
  • 1 Rolling Pin

Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 lbs store bought pizza dough, rested
  • 2 cans Wild Sardines
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup kalamata olives
  • a few sprigs of thyme
  • pinch of sea salt for finishing

Instructions
 

  • Heat a medium sized skillet over medium heat with olive oil.
  • Add the onions and allow them to caramelize, stirring them occasionally. It should take about 30 minutes for them to deepen in color and become sticky and soft.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Roll out the pizza dough.
  • Brush the oil from the sardines over the pizza dough.
  • Spread the caramelized onions onto the dough.
  • Top the onions with the kalamata olives and thyme
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven. Garnish with a little flaky se salt.
